Phalacrocorax auritus - Double-crested Cormorant (left) with female Anhinga (Anhinga anhinga) (right). Both species lack the oils produced by most other water birds used to repel water from their feathers, so they need to dry their wet wings in the sun in order to fly with less effort. The small birds to the left are Ring-billed Gulls (Larus delawarensis).
